CSAS In Top 500 Schools In The Nation

Classen School of Advanced Studies is one of seven Oklahoma high schools rated in the top 500 by Newsweek Magazine’s list of "The 1000 Best High Schools in America" for 2014. CSAS placed 362nd, third highest of the Oklahoma schools.

The schools were ranked on the basis of a ratio developed by the magazine’s Jay Mathews. The number of Advanced Placement and/or International Baccalaureate tests which were taken by the school’s students were divided by the number of senior graduates. The magazine said this was a way of measuring students’ readiness for college. Some educators have disagreed, and the rankings have no official standing other than conferring "bragging rights" to those making the list.

In the 2014 list, only Norman North (330th) and Tulsa Memorial (356th) scored higher among Oklahoma schools. Other Oklahoma schools in the top 500 were Bethany (370), Norman (443), Cordell (493), and Tulsa's Booker T. Washington (499).
